Our take
What does Le Jour se Lève smell like?
Le Jour se Lève was one of the Louis Vuitton fragrances launched in 2018. In-house perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud set out to bottle a sunrise. Everything starts with Italian mandarin. Cavallier says he worked it from three angles: the flesh, the zest and the blossom of the tree. Blackcurrant gives it a sharper edge, and he described the result as "edgy yummy". The heart is light and airy. Sambac jasmine floats among peony and an apricot-tinted osmanthus. The base is a small surprise. Incense and musk accords add a faint shadow, like a church with its doors open on a summer morning. It shares the bright fruity freshness of Marc Jacobs Daisy, but it smells far more polished. The price is in another league too. Expect a soft halo rather than a trail.
When to wear it
Wear it in the morning and through the day in spring and summer. Three sprays will do, though it turns quiet after a few hours.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Le Jour se Lève is one of 13 creations by Louis Vuitton in our encyclopedia.
