Our take
What does A*Men Kryptomint smell like?
Mugler released A*Men Kryptomint in 2017 as a limited edition, twenty years after the 1997 original. The idea fits in one image: iced mint poured over the house's gourmand base. The first minutes are almost mentholated, a chill that climbs the nose like a strong mint lozenge. Sage adds a herbal note. Geranium follows with its rosy, peppery side before patchouli brings in damp earth. The base keeps the A*Men codes of tonka bean, coffee, chocolate and vanilla. The contrast is blunt. You get hot and cold at once, like a mint dessert served with an espresso. Compared with A*Men Pure Coffee or Pure Tonka, Kryptomint is the freshest of the family, though the sugar wins in the end. It has since been discontinued and now turns up mostly on the secondhand market. Fans of the line hunt it down for that icy contrast.
When to wear it
An autumn evening scent, when cool air brings the mint forward. Two sprays are plenty because the chocolate base projects hard.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Fougère family. A*Men Kryptomint is one of 23 creations by Mugler in our encyclopedia.
