Our take
What does Alien Eau Sublime smell like?
In February 2017 Mugler launched Alien Eau Sublime in the UK, first at House of Fraser. Dominique Ropion, who co-created the 2005 Alien, took his jasmine and put it under brighter light. The opening is openly juicy. Mandarin and orange lead, and the green galbanum barely registers. Jasmine follows, less purple and syrupy than in the original. Here it turns golden and more traditional. Tiare flower comes along with its sunscreen smell. The base keeps Alien’s frame in a lighter build: cashmeran and white amber, softened by a powdery heliotrope that hints at vanilla without being vanilla. Alien fans will recognize the family. Anyone who finds the original too heavy will see a fresher way in. It is less radical than its parent but close enough that you may wonder whether it was needed.
When to wear it
For summer, daytime or dinner on a terrace. Two sprays are enough because the jasmine still projects well.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Alien Eau Sublime is one of 23 creations by Mugler in our encyclopedia.
