Our take
What does Alien Man smell like?
Thirteen years after Alien, Mugler released a men’s version in 2018. Jean-Christophe Hérault composed it, and it has almost nothing in common with the original’s solar jasmine. The opening is aromatic and a bit medicinal. Anise leads, joined by lavender, mint and a streak of lemon. The heart moves into leather. It is soft, with a gingerbread side, surrounded by cashmere wood and pepper. The osmanthus the brand talked up is barely there. Mugler also mentioned a beech accord, and you can sense it in the dry, faintly smoky wood. The base sits on white amber, cashmeran and a touch of vanilla, without the amber cream of the women’s Alien. Next to A*Men, the house’s big gourmand masculine, Alien Man is much drier and far more polite. Mugler has since pulled it from its range.
When to wear it
For autumn evenings, with two or three sprays since projection stays modest. It rarely lasts more than a few hours.
It belongs to the Woody, Leather family. Alien Man is one of 23 creations by Mugler in our encyclopedia.
