Our take
What does L'Extase Rose Absolue smell like?
The third chapter of L’Extase, after the 2015 original and Caresse de Roses in 2016, L’Extase Rose Absolue came out in 2017. Francis Kurkdjian returned to the line for this evening version, an eau de parfum sold in 80 ml. The opening plays two peppers, pink and black. They prickle the nose and give a dry relief straight away. Taif rose arrives fast, dense and slightly scorched. Atlas cedar keeps it company and stops it from turning into jam. The base is warm with vanilla, benzoin and patchouli plus a musk that rounds it all off. On skin it moves from a spicy rose to an ambery rose that feels almost resinous. Compared with the original L’Extase, which is muskier and lighter, Rose Absolue is darker and sweeter. It also plays like a mainstream answer to the niche rose orientals.
When to wear it
For a winter dinner or a dressy night out. One spray at the base of the neck is enough because the rose radiates for a long time.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. L'Extase Rose Absolue is one of 20 creations by Nina Ricci in our encyclopedia.
