Our take
What does Premier Jour smell like?
Premier Jour came out in 2001. Nina Ricci was best known then for L'Air du Temps and wanted a younger floral. Sources disagree on the perfumer, so we won't name one. The opening is fresh and fizzy. Peony brings a rosy, watery side and mandarin a juicy zest. Sweet pea adds a light, slightly powdery touch. Gardenia gives the heart a creamy texture. Orchid joins it with an almost vanilla softness. The base stays gentle. Vanilla, sandalwood and white musk form a clean-skin finish with little projection. The name means first day. It suggests a first date rather than a big night out. Next to L'Air du Temps and its spicy carnation, Premier Jour feels simpler and more modern. It lacks the signature that has kept its older sibling around for decades.
When to wear it
A daytime floral for spring and summer, discreet at the office. Use three sprays since it fades quickly.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Premier Jour is one of 20 creations by Nina Ricci in our encyclopedia.
