Our take
What does Luna Rossa Extreme smell like?
Prada released Luna Rossa Extreme in October 2013, a year after Luna Rossa. Daniela Andrier, a long-time house perfumer, composed this eau de parfum. The name still points to competitive sailing. The scent looks more toward the fireplace. Bergamot opens with plenty of black pepper and juniper berries that give a gin-like edge. Lavender arrives quickly. It is the backbone of the whole perfume, clean and a little soapy as in the original. Then the base warms up. Labdanum brings a resinous note while amber and vanilla round it off without turning into dessert. The 2012 Luna Rossa remains a fresh, metallic lavender. Extreme keeps the same skeleton and gives it a coat. The structure is simple, maybe too simple, but it works. Several retailers now list it as discontinued, so bottles are getting scarce.
When to wear it
A warm lavender for autumn and winter, at dinner or on weekends. Three sprays across the neck and wrists are enough.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Fougère family. Luna Rossa Extreme is one of 23 creations by Prada in our encyclopedia.
