Our take
What does London for Men smell like?
Burberry dressed London for Men in its tartan in 2006, with Antoine Maisondieu on the formula. It's warm from the very first spray, with none of the usual citrus warm-up. Cinnamon leads, aired out by lavender and bergamot plus a touch of pepper. Leather surfaces in the heart, softened by mimosa and a port wine note that feels dark and fruity. The base is the best part. Tobacco leaf, opoponax and guaiac wood make a resinous and slightly smoky blend. Oakmoss dries it out. The whole thing smells like a jacket worn in a heated pub. Next to Viktor & Rolf's Spicebomb, which is newer and louder, London for Men is darker and less sweet. It has one flaw. Projection is modest for such a loaded profile, so people notice it mostly up close.
