Our take
What does Chloé Absolu de Parfum smell like?
Chloé released Absolu de Parfum in November 2017 as a limited edition marking ten years of its eau de parfum. Retailers credit Michel Almairac with the formula. The idea was simple. Keep the original's Damask rose and layer it with a Grasse centifolia rose absolute. So the opening smells of fresh, still-damp rose with the familiar lemony edge. Fairly soon the centifolia takes over, heavier and more honeyed. Then the patchouli arrives, earthy and direct, and it changes everything. The clean powdery rose of 2008 becomes an evening rose with a darker tone. The vanilla listed in the base is discreet enough that some people can barely find it. Next to Chloé eau de parfum, the Absolu feels denser and much less soapy. It leans toward the classic French rose and patchouli style without quite matching its scale.
When to wear it
For a winter dinner or a night when you want your rose noticed. One or two sprays at most, as the patchouli spreads quickly.
It belongs to the Floral family. Chloé Absolu de Parfum is one of 9 creations by Chloé in our encyclopedia.
