Our take
What does D by Diesel smell like?
D by Diesel came out in 2022. It was the first scent overseen by Glenn Martens, Diesel's creative director since 2020. Three Givaudan perfumers composed it: Nisrine Grillié, Shyamala Maisondieu and Louise Turner. It is meant for everyone, with no masculine or feminine box. The opening is brisk with spiky ginger and juicy bergamot. The heart carries the main idea. A cotton accord suggests raw denim and sits on Provence lavender. It smells like clean jeans fresh out of the machine. The base is cozier. Madagascar bourbon vanilla and an amber wood give soft warmth without too much sugar. The crumpled bottle is refillable and its cap mimics a jeans rivet. Lavender and vanilla recall Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male, only much lighter and cleaner. The concept is clever, and the scent mostly lives up to it.
When to wear it
