Our take
What does Only The Brave Tattoo smell like?
Diesel launched Only The Brave Tattoo in 2012, three years after Only The Brave. The bottle keeps the glass fist, this time covered in tattoo artwork. The perfumer hasn't been publicly credited. The opening catches you off guard with tart, crunchy Granny Smith apple, which retailers pair with mandarin. It doesn't last long. Pepper and sage move in fast and give the heart a dry, herbal tone. Then the base takes over. Tobacco leaf and benzoin form a warm, slightly sweet accord that feels almost smoky. Patchouli adds earth and an amber wood gives the loud projection typical of 2010s men's scents. Compared with the fresher, citrusy Only The Brave, Tattoo is clearly darker and sweeter. It's the Diesel for nights out, while the original stays a daytime scent. The fist bottle is half the appeal.
When to wear it
Bring it out on autumn and winter evenings, ideally somewhere casual. Two sprays are plenty because the amber wood carries far.
It belongs to the Oriental / Amber, Woody family. Only The Brave Tattoo is one of 14 creations by Diesel in our encyclopedia.
