Our take
What does Fuel for Life Spirit smell like?
Diesel released Fuel for Life Spirit in 2013 as a men's spin on Fuel for Life Homme. Fabrice Pellegrin of Firmenich composed this eau de toilette, which Osmoz files as an oriental fougère. The opening is unexpected. Cinnamon lands on bergamot and grapefruit, so the citrus smells like warm peel rather than fresh juice. Geranium in the heart adds a rosy and slightly minty touch. Orange blossom and iris round it out without making it feminine. The base is the best part. Myrrh, incense and labdanum form a resinous cloud, and ambery woods keep it modern and dry. On skin the resins settle within an hour and stay soft and close. Compared with the 2007 Fuel for Life Homme, which ran on anise and raspberry, Spirit trades sweetness for something closer to a church.
