Our take
What does L.12.12 Rouge smell like?
The full name is Eau de Lacoste L.12.12 Rouge. Announced at the end of 2011, it reached shops in early 2012 as part of the series named after the brand's polo shirt, whose original reference code is L.12.12. No perfumer is credited in reliable sources. The opening is fruity and fairly unexpected for a men's scent at this price. Mandarin fizzes, mango brings sweet flesh and rooibos adds a slightly woody red-tea note. The heart then warms up with frank spices. Ginger stings, cardamom cools things down and pepper dries it all out. The base settles on acacia wood, wrapped by benzoin and cistus in a resinous softness. Compared with L.12.12 Blanc, which is cleaner and soapier, Rouge aims to be warmer and more energetic. Some retailers now list it as unavailable.
When to wear it
Spring and autumn, for weekends or a relaxed day. Three or four sprays, as longevity is modest.
It belongs to the Woody, Spicy family. L.12.12 Rouge is one of 14 creations by Lacoste in our encyclopedia.
