Our take
What does Miracle smell like?
Lancôme released Miracle in 2000, a composition attributed to Harry Frémont and Alberto Morillas. It belongs to a generation that went looking for light after the heavy orientals of the 1980s. Freesia opens fresh and a little peppery, paired with a gentle, watery lychee that smells like fruit you have just peeled. The heart holds the twist. Magnolia and jasmine get a prick of pepper and ginger, and that spice tingles rather than warms, like biting into candied ginger. The base stays quiet: musk and amber lay down a clean, tepid veil that lasts several hours without getting heavy. Next to the fruity florals of its era, many of them rather limp, Miracle keeps a small streak of cheek thanks to the ginger.
