Our take
What does Alien Eau Extraordinaire smell like?
Dominique Ropion and Véronique Nyberg composed Alien Eau Extraordinaire in 2014, when the brand still went by Thierry Mugler. It is the summer take on Alien from 2005. The opening is all sunshine, with bergamot, orange and lemon jostling for space. The heart reaches Alien's radiance by another road. Orange blossom and neroli stand in for jasmine sambac, while ylang-ylang adds creamy roundness. A dash of pepper keeps it from turning too polite. The base is the most familiar part. Alien's amberwood is there, alongside lighter vanilla, musk and sandalwood. It smells like warm skin after a day outdoors. Note lists vary between sources, some citing tea, tiaré or cashmeran. It has become hard to find and may have been discontinued.
When to wear it
Spring and summer, daytime. Two or three sprays, since it projects more than a typical eau de toilette.
It belongs to the Floral family. Alien Eau Extraordinaire is one of 28 creations by Mugler in our encyclopedia.
