Our take
What does Soleil smell like?
Lalique launched Soleil in June 2019, an eau de parfum inspired by morning light. Alexandra Monet and Benoist Lapouza composed it. The opening pairs mandarin and cardamom with a bitter almond that smells of fruit stones. The heart is the most gourmand part. Pear granita meets a caffè latte accord and caramelised sugar, with jasmine to keep a flower in the picture. It suggests breakfast on a terrace more than a bouquet. The base softens things further with white musk, sandalwood and pink praline. The coffee stays light and never roasted or bitter. Against Yves Saint Laurent's Black Opium, another sweet coffee, Soleil is milkier and less dark. The pear also makes it fruitier. The gold sun-ray bottle earns the name. Longevity is decent and the moderate trail suits everyday wear.
When to wear it
A daytime gourmand for autumn, at a café or on weekends. Two or three sprays are plenty because the sugar settles in fast.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Soleil is one of 17 creations by Lalique in our encyclopedia.
