Our take
What does Bonbon Couture smell like?
Launched in August 2016, Bonbon Couture follows the Bonbon Viktor & Rolf introduced two years earlier. Cécile Matton and Serge Majoullier composed it, and the house pitched it as a richer take on the original gourmand. The top stays fruity with mandarin, neroli and a very ripe peach. In the heart, orange blossom and jasmine sit on a layer of caramel. That is where the perfume lives, between white flowers and cooked sugar. The base keeps the family’s vanilla and sandalwood but adds blond tobacco and patchouli. The tobacco changes everything. It dries out the caramel and gives it a velvet texture the first Bonbon lacked. If Lancôme’s La Vie est Belle feels too much like praline to you, Bonbon Couture offers a browner sugar that is less powdery and carries a real thread of smoke.
When to wear it
Keep it for cold nights and chunky knits, since heat makes it heavy. One spray on the neck and one on the wrist will do.
It belongs to the Gourmand family. Bonbon Couture is one of 12 creations by Viktor & Rolf in our encyclopedia.
