Our take
What does Tubéreuse de Madras smell like?
Tubéreuse de Madras came out in 2017 as part of La Collection, Boucheron's line meant for anyone to wear. Christophe Raynaud composed it. The bottle is unisex, yet the heart is a white flower with no shyness at all. The opening is the surprise. Passion fruit arrives first, tart and slightly tropical, with orange blossom close behind and a green flick of violet leaf. Then the tuberose takes over. It is creamy and thick. Ylang-ylang makes it sunnier while frangipani adds a holiday-by-the-water feel. The base keeps things simple and does its job well. Sri Lankan sandalwood and Bourbon vanilla round out the flower without smothering it. Next to Frédéric Malle's Carnal Flower, which is greener and almost minty, Tubéreuse de Madras comes across fruitier and warmer. It cares less about abstraction than about the plain pleasure of a white flower on skin.
When to wear it
Save it for warm weather, an outdoor dinner or a summer night out. One spray at the base of the neck is plenty because the tuberose grows fast.
It belongs to the Floral family. Tubéreuse de Madras is one of 18 creations by Boucheron in our encyclopedia.
