Our take
What does Quatre smell like?
Boucheron launched Quatre in 2015 under the full name Quatre pour Femme. The bottle borrows from the house's Quatre ring and its stacked bands. Three perfumers signed the formula: Antoine Maisondieu, Nadège Le Garlantezec and Nathalie Gracia-Cetto. The opening pairs bitter orange with tart redcurrant. It's fresh and a little prickly. The heart is a classic jasmine and rose duet, well balanced and not too sweet. The base settles on pale woods the house calls golden woods, plus clean musks. The structure is simple and easy to read. Quatre isn't after drama. It goes for polish, like a well-buffed piece of jewellery. Compared with Chanel's Chance, another daytime fruity floral, it's woodier and less fizzy. We'd have liked more character in the base. It works very well at the office.
