Our take
What does Cerruti 1881 pour Femme smell like?
Cerruti launched 1881 pour Femme in 1995, an Eau de Toilette credited to perfumer Claire Cain. The name recalls the year the Cerruti wool mill was founded in Biella, and fabric is the right image. The signature here is flax flower, an accord that smells of clean, slightly grassy linen. The opening is green and bright. Bergamot and green notes meet mimosa and freesia. The heart is a fairly dense floral, and sources disagree on its exact makeup. Violet and rose come up most often, sometimes with narcissus or tuberose. On skin the violet stands out and the tuberose stays well behaved. The base is soft. Sandalwood, musk and a quiet vanilla wrap around the flax accord again. It smells clean without smelling of detergent, which is harder to pull off than it sounds.
