Our take
What does Eden smell like?
Jean Guichard composed Eden for Cacharel in 1994, at the height of the aquatic trend. Yet it has none of the marine freshness of L'Eau d'Issey. The opening is green and fruity, with citrus, peach and aniseed-like tarragon over crushed leaves. The heart is what sets it apart. Water lily and lotus create the smell of still water, reinforced by Calone, while melon and pineapple add an almost syrupy sweetness. Tuberose and mimosa thicken the bouquet further. Then the base surprises with its density. Patchouli, sandalwood and cedar build a dark and earthy foundation softened by tonka and vanilla. Think of a damp garden rather than a beach. Eden is still in the Cacharel range, though it has become hard to find.
When to wear it
Spring or autumn, daytime. Two sprays, as the patchouli in the base is stubborn.
It belongs to the Floral, Aquatic family. Eden is one of 20 creations by Cacharel in our encyclopedia.
