Our take
What does Loverdose smell like?
Olivier Cresp and Honorine Blanc of Firmenich composed Loverdose for Diesel in 2011. It is a woody amber that sets itself apart from the sugary gourmands of the time thanks to an unexpected pivot: licorice. The lemon and mandarin opening is gone fast. Star anise and licorice take over with a black, almost medicinal note that grabs you straight away. Gardenia and jasmine join without really softening it. They bring a creamy white flesh. The base lays vanilla over cedar and sandalwood, while ambroxan adds a salty skin effect that radiates nicely. It lasts a long time and projects well for the first hour. Anyone who hates anise should walk on by. Everyone else will find an oriental more singular than the brand ever promised.
When to wear it
