Our take
What does Acqua di Gioia smell like?
Giorgio Armani released Acqua di Gioia in June 2010. Loc Dong, Anne Flipo and Dominique Ropion composed it. The top is properly refreshing, with mint and lemon smelling like homemade lemonade. The heart looks for water more than flowers. An aquatic note and green notes surround light jasmine and peony, while pink pepper keeps some bite. Then the base springs its surprise. A brown sugar accord settles on labdanum and cedar. That sugar changes everything: it makes the scent warmer than most women's aquatics of the period. On hot skin it comes close to a mojito. You can wear it in summer without the bleachy feel of some marine scents. It's still on sale, and several flankers followed, starting with an Eau Fraîche in 2013.
When to wear it
Summer daytime, at the office or on the beach. Three or four sprays, with a top-up in the afternoon.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Acqua di Gioia is one of 52 creations by Giorgio Armani in our encyclopedia.
