Our take
What does Modern Princess smell like?
Lanvin launched Modern Princess in summer 2016 as an eau de parfum. Christophe Raynaud of Firmenich composed it. Your first thought is candy. Red apple and red currant open loud and tart enough to make your mouth water. The heart settles quickly. Freesia adds a clean and slightly soapy note while jasmine stays in the background. The base is light. White musk and pale woods carry a vanilla orchid that sweetens without weighing anything down. Nothing about it is dark, and it was clearly made for a young audience. It never pretends otherwise. Compared with Éclat d'Arpège, the house's other bestseller, Modern Princess trades the green and watery side for more fruit and more sugar. It fits its decade well. Picture red berry jelly on skin fresh out of the shower.
When to wear it
Wear it in the daytime in spring or summer, at work or on weekends. Longevity is modest, so keep the bottle handy for a mid-afternoon top-up.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Modern Princess is one of 14 creations by Lanvin in our encyclopedia.
