Our take
What does Alien Flora Futura smell like?
Mugler launched Alien Flora Futura in early 2018 as an eau de toilette in a pink quartz bottle. Dominique Ropion and Jean-Christophe Hérault took the frame of the 2005 Alien and lightened it until it felt like a linen shirt. The opening is the surprise. Buddha's hand, the gnarled fingered citron, smells of green peel with a bitter edge. A clover leaf adds a herbal thread that reads almost savory. In the heart, the queen of the night cactus flower stands in for the original's syrupy jasmine. It stays pale and milky, and some noses catch a hint of orange blossom in it. The base keeps the house signature, a white amber softened here by creamy sandalwood. Next to Alien, Flora Futura holds back. You lose the purple power that made the first one famous. In exchange you get something you can wear in July without bothering anyone.
When to wear it
A daytime scent for spring and summer that behaves well in meetings. You'll need three or four sprays because it sits close to the skin.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. Alien Flora Futura is one of 23 creations by Mugler in our encyclopedia.
