Our take
What does L'Extase smell like?
L'Extase was Francis Kurkdjian's first perfume for Nina Ricci. It was unveiled in January 2015 and reached Galeries Lafayette in March, with Laetitia Casta as the face. The house describes two accords. The first is a bare rose built from white petals and Turkish and Bulgarian rose, with pink pepper prickling at the top. This rose is neither dewy nor jammy. It smells more like skin after a shower, with a fruity edge. The second accord is darker: benzoin, amber, musk and cedar. Benzoin gives a resinous roundness close to caramel, and cedar keeps the structure from sagging. It stays near the body. You can recognise Kurkdjian's fondness for clean and luminous musks. Production has probably stopped, though Nina Ricci hasn't confirmed it.
When to wear it
Autumn and winter, for dates or evenings out. Three sprays, since it's on the quiet side.
It belongs to the Floral, Oriental / Amber family. L'Extase is one of 26 creations by Nina Ricci in our encyclopedia.
