Our take
What does Soir d'Orient smell like?
Sisley released Soir d'Orient on 1 September 2015. Olivier Pescheux composed it in close collaboration with Isabelle d'Ornano. The house presents it as a free variation on Eau du Soir, its great chypre. The top pairs citrus and galbanum, a bitter green resin, with saffron that already casts a golden tint. The heart is floral and spicy. Rose dominates, backed by geranium and a dry black pepper. The base stays true to the chypre family. Sandalwood, incense and patchouli build a smoky woody base that lasts all evening. Compared with Eau du Soir, which is darker and mossier, Soir d'Orient is spicier and warmer. Incense replaces moss as the common thread. It's an expensive and demanding perfume that needs warm skin and some room around it. Wear it where people can come close rather than in a crowded office.
When to wear it
