Our take
What does Baiser Fou smell like?
Cartier launched Baiser Fou in spring 2017 as a variation on Baiser Volé. Mathilde Laurent, the house perfumer, composed this eau de parfum. Where Baiser Volé drew a green, powdery lily, Baiser Fou heads straight for dessert. The opening smells of candied raspberry and fruit sweets. It is loud for a few minutes before the tartness takes over. The heart is billed as orchid. On skin it reads mostly as a showy pink floral. White chocolate, vanilla and a creamy musk form the base. The chocolate is quieter than advertised. What you get is soft and powdery, close to ice cream. Next to La Vie est Belle, another very sweet gourmand from the same period, Baiser Fou is fruitier and less praline-heavy. Fans of Baiser Volé often struggled to follow it here.
When to wear it
A gourmand for autumn and winter evenings or a date. Two sprays are plenty, as the vanilla base spreads fast.
It belongs to the Floral, Gourmand, Fruity family. Baiser Fou is one of 15 creations by Cartier in our encyclopedia.
