Our take
What does For Him smell like?
Narciso Rodriguez launched For Him in 2007, four years after For Her had made musk the house signature. The sources we found credit Francis Kurkdjian with the formula. The brand gives a short list rather than a full pyramid: violet leaf, musk, patchouli and amber. Some listings add nutmeg. The opening is green and a bit bitter. The violet leaf smells of crushed stems more than petals, with a spicy edge. Musk arrives early and takes over. It is dry and soft, close to clean skin. Patchouli and amber then add a warm, slightly earthy base. Some hear a nod to the masculine fougères of the 1980s. Next to Terre d'Hermès, a restrained woody scent released a year earlier, For Him is softer and more intimate. It stays close to the body.
When to wear it
An office or dinner scent that never shows off. You'll need three or four sprays, as projection is weak.
It belongs to the Floral, Woody, Musky family. For Him is one of 13 creations by Narciso Rodriguez in our encyclopedia.
