Our take
What does Soir de Lune smell like?
Sisley gave Soir de Lune to Dominique Ropion in 2006. It is a floral chypre with a classic structure, written on a generous scale. The opening mixes bergamot and mandarin with a handful of spice. Coriander, nutmeg and pepper add dry warmth right away. The heart is crowded. May rose and jasmine share the stage, iris lends powder and mimosa brings a pollen softness. Peach shows through with a velvety roundness that recalls the great fruity chypres of the past. The base owns its character. Patchouli is frank, softened by honey and sandalwood with cedar in support. Some retailers also list oakmoss, which fits that damp forest-floor feel. Think of Mitsouko with more flowers and less fruit. It wears like a velvet evening dress.
When to wear it
Autumn and winter evenings or an important dinner. Two sprays on skin rather than fabric, so the chypre can breathe.
It belongs to the Floral, Chypre family. Soir de Lune is one of 11 creations by Sisley in our encyclopedia.
