Our take
What does Rockin' Rio smell like?
Escada puts out a limited edition every summer, and Rockin' Rio was the 2005 one. Philippe Romano composed this eau de toilette around a Brazilian theme. The brand brought it back in 2011, which explains the conflicting dates at retailers. The opening smells like a beach bar: pineapple, mandarin and papaya. The heart holds a piña colada accord of peach and cane sugar with a hint of coconut. Night jasmine adds a little flower. The base has a surprising salty side. Sandalwood and white musks join driftwood and a sea breeze note. Coconut milk rounds it all off. Estée Lauder's Bronze Goddess also plays the beach, though on the sunscreen side. Rockin' Rio stays closer to a cocktail. It is sweet and openly fruity, with little subtlety. Wear it for fun and not for finesse.
When to wear it
On holiday, in full sun, on skin that already smells of salt. Three sprays in the morning.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Rockin' Rio is one of 11 creations by Escada in our encyclopedia.
