Our take
What does Seductive smell like?
Guess launched Seductive in 2010 as an eau de toilette by Véronique Nyberg. It targets the jeans brand’s young crowd. Bergamot opens with blackcurrant and pear. It smells more like sour candy than an orchard. Orange blossom leads the heart over jasmine. Orris root adds a light powdery effect that tames the sugar. The base rests on two materials, vanilla and incense. The incense is a surprise at this price and brings a welcome thread of smoke. It recalls Lancôme’s La Vie est Belle, another gourmand iris. Seductive is lighter and far less tenacious. The smoky base remains its best asset. On skin, the pear fades fast and orange blossom takes over. The incense mostly shows up after two hours, once the sugar has dropped. That late smoky turn is the best part. Many cheaper vanillas never get there.
When to wear it
A going-out scent for winter that wants a generous hand. Plan on four sprays, since the eau de toilette fades within a few hours.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Seductive is one of 10 creations by Guess in our encyclopedia.
