Our take
What does Flora Gorgeous Gardenia smell like?
Gucci relaunched its Flora line in 2021 with Flora Gorgeous Gardenia as an eau de parfum. Honorine Blanc and Alberto Morillas are credited. Miley Cyrus fronts the #FloraFantasy campaign shot by Petra Collins, and the bottle carries the Flora print redrawn by Alessandro Michele. An eau de toilette with the same name had been around since 2012. The opening smells of pear blossom and red berries, with a fizzy mandarin. It's cheerful and very pink. Gardenia follows, milky more than heady, surrounded by jasmine and frangipani. The base is short and sweet. Brown sugar and patchouli feel like caramel poured over a bouquet. Compared with Marc Jacobs' Daisy, another mainstream fruity floral, it's creamier and more gourmand. The gardenia stays stylised and far from the real flower. We like the mood, less so how closely it resembles so many sweet florals of the moment.
When to wear it
A sunny weekend scent that also works for a daytime date. Two or three sprays, on skin rather than clothes.
It belongs to the Floral, Fruity family. Flora Gorgeous Gardenia is one of 16 creations by Gucci in our encyclopedia.
