Our take
What does Fairy Love smell like?
Escada releases a summer limited edition every year, and Fairy Love was the 2021 one. The brand presented it as a vegan formula. The opening is fruity and fizzy. Nashi pear brings a crisp watery freshness, raspberry a red tartness and orange a bright zest. The heart is little more than a light jasmine, airy rather than indolic. The surprise comes at the base. A creamy hazelnut recalls a thinned-out chocolate spread, and that gourmand turn is rare in these summer editions, which usually stick to fruit. Compared with Marc Jacobs Daisy, Fairy Love is more gourmand because of that hazelnut, and less floral. It remains a simple, fresh eau de toilette that isn't looking for depth. Like any limited edition, it is now mostly found at online discount retailers. It still turns up there at low prices, which makes it an easy blind buy for fans of fruity summer scents.
